Tea Seas

The water in your teacup is the same water from a primordial sea — a nursery for the first living cells on Earth. The teacup’s circle echoes both the shape of your body’s cells, and the sphere of our planet. Taking cues from the Japanese tea ceremony, Tea Seas follows a ritualistic process of repetition and restraint in order to explore our precarious human existence on this planet.

Created in 2015 during an artist residency with Studio Kura in Japan.

Exhibited in 2015 in Japan and at Bunbury Regional Art Galleries, Western Australia.
